The Bethel Winter Guard aims to provide an opportunity for participants to strive for excellence, develop teamwork, learn sportsmanship, achieve the highest ranking in our competitive circle & entertain through the performance art of color guard. ...And no one sits on the bench!
Bethel Winter Guard has been competing for nearly 20 years. We look forward hopefully to another competitive season with in-person performances, as well as our Annual Friends and Family Event in front of the Bethel Community!
Winter Guard, also known as the “Sport of the Arts,” combines the physical demands of an athletic event with entertainment, creativity and excitement. Unlike an outdoor marching band show, Winter Guard performs indoors to pre-recorded music. Performing indoors means weather is not a factor and the audience is closer to the action. With that comes an enhanced connection with the viewer. The performers and the audience members can see each other’s faces and thus, experience the emotion of the story being told.
Winter Guard performers maintain a delicate balance between the physical and emotional demands of the performance, coordination, expressive story-telling, and moving in harmony as a group. This combination creates a unique experience for both the spinner and the audience!
- Bethel students in grades 3-12 enrolled in Bethel Public Schools
-Practices held in Bethel Public Schools
-Competition season: February- April
-Competitions on Saturdays in CT; JV and Varsity teams may also compete in more distant tournaments
Your child as part of Guard will spend many hours learning basic dance techniques and spinning skills with equipment such as flags, rifles and sabers. Focus will be placed on moving and spinning their equipment in unison while adding a performance quality to the move. They will gain confidence as they learn the art of performing, as well as time management and organizational skills in order to successfully balance school, home life, extracurricular activities and rehearsal. They will become an essential part of a team and ultimately learn that they must work hard as an individual in order to achieve success together as a team.
